Let me begin to state that the concept of the Housetop was born long before the popular radio station Studio Brussels started off with their “Greatest Switch”, which we consider as a ‘cheap’ copy of our concept. The story of the Housetop began in 2003 on a very small and basic level in the legendary “Kafeeke” situated at the Boy Scout facilities of Vilvoorde City in the shadow of a picturesque 19th century prison. With approximately 40 party-people and a voting system based on pen, paper and wooden mailboxes, long before the internet generation, offering a Top 60 count-down chart, a party child was born and a bright future laid before him.

During the next three years the Housetop-crowd doubled his participants and voting lists were distributed through innovatory channels link “e-mail” and supported by “MS-Office”. The setting didn’t change and in those years the “Kafeeke” had an even more legendary alcohol abusive reputation and hosted also the cult-parties “Tunnelvision”. The legendary “Kafeeke” Club grew out of its proportions and moreover the trendy location attracted other clubs who tried to find their glory in the shadow of the 19th century prison. During this era (2004-2005) the Boy Scout Facilities were transformed into a clubbing scene where next to the Kafeeke the clubs “Stammeneke” and “Tobit” had their operating bases, even organizing open-air events in the new party district.

In 2006 the local government put a hold to all this crazy partying and dramatically decided to tear the whole district down to the ground… An ultimate 72 hour lasting party took place at the legendary “Kafeeke” where the sound of the main concepts Housetop and Tunnelvision were granted a special place within this apocalyptic party.

As the spirit of the “Kafeeke” was still alive within the minds of the nostalgic party crowd, the second life of the Housetop started. In 2008 the Housetop Crew gathered its party people at the “Fishing Pounds” in Elewijt, at that time known for hosting Goa and D&B parties, for yet another Housetop edition. This forced change of location was a big success as all the old party bunch signed present and was accompanied by a new audience setting the counter on 100 participants, offering a Top 100 count-down chart. The concept grew even more into the changing digital world of that time and websites, Facebook pages, powerpoint presentations, lasers and personalized drinking vouchers were introduced. The party people got an early welcome with a special Housetop BBQ.

After this successful edition the Housetop Crew decided to go forward with a “Housetop on Tour” concept and disembarked in 2009 in the “Jiekaa” club at the legendary “Kassei” district of Vilvoorde City. Reaching even more fans adding up to 120 party-people. For this edition the crew paid tribute to his trusted crowd and gave away free mix CD’s assembling the most popular Tracks in the History of the Housetop. Again the party was a big hit and alcohol supplies drew out very quickly resulting in yet again an exuberant party atmosphere. 

The digital maturity process was maintained as the participants were partially able to vote online and the Housetop was supported by an extravagant video presentation.Than followed a Housetop hibernation period of 10 years, but sometimes a spark can set the whole scene back of fire and in 2019 the Housetop Crew joined forces again with a new edition and another new and iconic location on the borders of the Canal Brussels-Willebroek at a glance of the original Kafeeke site. A new Housteop chapter was written in the gunpowder factory which hosted the Housetop scene for 2 editions in 2019 and 2022. The Housetop wouldn’t be the housetop if somewhere in between there was not a digital COVID edition which turned out to be a great success early 2022 opening up to a whole new crowd of digital party people.

The 2023 edition was a very special edition as we celebrated our 20th anniversary. For that occasion we teamed up with the Vilvoorde boyscouts to link back to our roots and we choose one of the most iconic Vilvoorde city party locations in the Equestrian Complex in the 3 fountains park. Many of the original crowd signed present, but like every edition also some new party people discovered our party concept and that lead to another collaboration for our current edition, where we we are honoured to host the opening evening of the Strombeach summer events.
